Creating Better Curb Appeal with Charming Garage Doors

Want to give your home’s curb appeal something special? Your garage door is an opportunity just waiting for you to take advantage of it. It takes up a lot of real estate on your home’s facade, so it’s a great place to infuse some charm and character to elevate the entire look of your curb appeal.

There are a lot of ways to improve your garage door. If your budget is low, simply painting it can have a big effect that doesn’t cost a lot. You can also add extra details to it, such as DIY hardware or vines, or you can replace the door altogether with something like a carriage door if you have a little more room in your budget.

Here are 10 eye-catching garage doors to give you some ideas and inspiration for your own home.

10 Charming Courtyard Patio and Garden Ideas

I love a courtyard in a home. You don’t see them often, but when you do, they always feel like a little special find that gives the house some extra character. A courtyard is an outdoor area that is surrounded by the walls of a building. This makes a courtyard one of the most private options for an outdoor space and definitely one of the most unique.

Courtyard homes have been rising in popularity for this reason, but they can still be considered rare compared to traditional layouts. They are also great if you have a small lot or if the view from the back of your home isn’t particularly pleasing. Since the courtyard is enclosed by other rooms in the home or high walls, no one can see in so the privacy aspect is wonderful. (Unless you have a two-story neighbor next door.)

Above all, they are incredibly charming and offer some interesting opportunities for decor and landscaping. Here are 10 inspiring examples of courtyard patios and gardens to give you some ideas.

10 Bathrooms That Embrace the Outdoors

The bathroom is one area in the home that should always feel like a retreat. It should be relaxing, peaceful, and help you start your day and unwind at the end of it. When I think of this kind of relaxation and rejuvanation, I often think of nature.

There are a lot of ways to incorporate nature into your bathroom, but one of the most effective is, of course, to open your bathroom right up to nature itself. A beautiful view always makes any area of a home more appealing. In the bathroom, it’s a great way to capture that spa-like vibe and help you shake off your stress.

The view doesn’t have to be of something particularly awe-inspiring or majestic, either. Even some flowers or greenery by a window can have a wonderful effect on the space and bring some more beauty to your bathroom.

Here are 10 inspiring bathrooms that embraced the outdoors:

The Cozy & Stylish Look of Sunken Outdoor Seating

There are so many ways to decorate an outdoor space. You can get just as creative with it as an interior space and work with nature to create something truly spectacular. One of my favorite looks that has been gaining popularity lately is sunken outdoor seating.

Sunken seating is when a seating area is built into the ground and requires you to step down into it to reach it. This arrangement is great for a variety of reasons:

  1. It gives you extra privacy because you’ll be sitting below ground level, creating a more intimate and cozy atmosphere.
  2. It doesn’t disrupt the view from the house. While regular, ground-level furniture will get in the way of the view from the house windows, sunken seating will allow you to see right over it.
  3. It is harmonious with the landscape and can be made to look like it is a part of it.

Besides all of these practical advantages, sunken outdoor seating can also look beautiful and stylish depending on the materials and shapes that you choose. It’s very versatile, suiting everything from a rustic landscape to a more modern, minimalist one.

Here are some great examples to inspire you.

10 Charming Juliet Balcony Ideas

If you want to add some instant charm to the exterior of your home, a Juliet balcony could be just the thing you are looking for. The name is derived from the classic Shakespeare play, Romeo & Juliet after the balcony from which Juliet calls out the famous line, “Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou, Romeo?”

A Juliet balcony has either very little space or no space at all to walk out onto. However, they offer the same effect visually from the outside as a traditional balcony. French doors usually lead out onto them, giving you the opportunity to enjoy the outside and give a space more of a feeling of openness without the spatial requirements of a full-blown balcony.

A Juliet balcony provides a ton of character to a space. Of course, they suit the traditional French style incredibly well (you will find them all over Paris, for example) but they also look great in a variety of other home styles, from traditional to modern facades.

Here are 10 great examples of Juliet balconies and some of the great design possibilities you can explore with them.
