Fresh and Stylish Coastal Living Room Ideas

Nothing says “fresh” and “airy” quite like coastal decor. Capturing the vibe of the sea means capturing a tranquil, uplifting vibe that you can enjoy every time you are at home. After all, nothing is more inspiring than nature.

There are several ways you can capture this appeal in your home, particularly in a living room. It isn’t just one “style.” You can blend a coastal vibe with any other decorating style, including modern, contemporary, and farmhouse. As I said, it’s more about the vibe. Think crisp neutrals, rustic textures, and a few colorful accents that are found in nature like blue and green.

Here are 10 coastal living rooms to give you some ideas and inspiration for your own home.

Home Tour: Modern Coastal Decor in the Hamptons

In coastal homes, we are used to seeing the charming cottage look that has almost become synonymous with beachfront homes. But this vacation home designed by Robert Stilin Interiors took a different approach, using modern lines and elements to fill this coastal retreat. While the palette is quintessentially coastal in neutrals and subtle accents of blue, there are a mixture of modern and rustic touches that you don’t so often see in coastal homes. This home tour offers a lot of interesting elements that could have you thinking outside the coastal box if you’re ever decorating a home by the sea.

The Coastal Clean Look of White and Neutrals

Neutrals may get a bad wrap for being ‘boring’, but the truth is – they are anything but. A neutral palette with crisp white accents has a clean, often coastal appeal that can be beautiful when executed successfully. The nature of this look is inherently elegant and upscale. I always recommend a neutral palette for a home going on the market because it looks clean, polished, and inviting to anyone’s sense of style. The key to decorating with white and neutrals is to incorporate pattern, texture and layering of tones to bring depth and interest to the space. Here are 10 examples of various spaces with this classic palette.

The Coastal Clean Look of White and Neutrals | HomeandEventStyling.comWhite slipcovers are a quick, inexpensive, and easy way to freshen up a space. If your furniture has a bold or colorful pattern, slipcovers are a great way to tone them down without spending a fortune on new furniture.

The Coastal Clean Look of White and Neutrals | HomeandEventStyling.comThe many different textures at play in this living room (wood, wicker, faux fur, a sisal rug) make this simple palette come alive with visual interest.

The Coastal Clean Look of White and Neutrals | HomeandEventStyling.comCreamy white lets the view out the windows be the center of attention. Some darker elements of grey and tan ground the space.

The Coastal Clean Look of White and Neutrals | HomeandEventStyling.comDarker wood tones, a brass end table, and various shades of grey and cream accents keep your eye moving in this living room.

The Coastal Clean Look of White and Neutrals | HomeandEventStyling.comGreenery is a great way to incorporate some color to a neutral space. Not only does it add some dimension, but it also gives it some life.

The Coastal Clean Look of White and Neutrals | HomeandEventStyling.comTouches of darker tones such as a deep wood or even black accents bring a lot of depth to an otherwise light and creamy space.

The Coastal Clean Look of White and Neutrals | HomeandEventStyling.comA fun chevron pattern on the seating brings a contemporary spirit to this space. The distressed wood on the end table and mirror frame suit the rustic view.

The Coastal Clean Look of White and Neutrals | HomeandEventStyling.comThe spectacular wood ceiling immediately catches your eye because of the otherwise simple, white space. Subtle accents of stainless steel, marble, and wood bring some dimension.

The Coastal Clean Look of White and Neutrals | HomeandEventStyling.comThis dining room is a beautiful mix of tailored and rustic elements that come together for a truly unique experience.

Don’t underestimate the style and power of a palette of white and neutrals.
