The Luigina collection of sedie (chairs, in Italian) is timeless in its design and breathtaking in its delicate architecture. I have always loved chairs that incorporate a circular design, especially ones as graceful as Luigina. They work well for kitchen and dining room chairs, and larger-scale versions make wonderful accent chairs, too. If you are a fan of handmade Italian furniture, then you are in for a treat with the Luigina collection from Italian company Sotow.

About Sotow

Sotow considers itself an artisan workshop that creates elegant and distinctive furniture. The company was founded by Milanese designer Paolo Calcagni. Calcagni aims to combine innovative technologies with traditional artisan methods to create simple furniture that belies its sophisticated construction. He says that his furniture may be simple, but it is made “like tailored clothes: customized to our clients’ taste and needs.”

Before Sotow, Paolo Calcagni worked in advertising for global brands including Swatch, Vodafone, and L’Oréal. He discovered his love for furniture design while editing the “The Official Point of View” for the Milan Furniture Fair. After exhibiting ten successful chair prototypes, he was hooked on furniture design.

The Pink Queen style of Sotow’s Luigina chair features 24-karat gold flash plating and brass feet. The back cushion swivels for ergonomic adjustment and, along with the seat cushion, is covered in cotton velvet. Light blue piping adds a bit of character to the otherwise classic chair.
