What Is Palm Beach Style?

Palm Beach style is a relaxed interior design theme. It is rooted in the sunny Florida lifestyle. Using bright whites as a base for accent colors, patterns, and motifs, this design style can make any home feel like a tropical getaway. It can be a playful medley of cosmopolitan influences, and it is best paired with large windows and lush landscapes.

Palm Beach Style Colors

Ask any interior designer for a list of Palm Beach style colors, and they will put white at the top of that list. Historically, designs in this style incorporated white on the walls, floors, and furniture. Today, the Florida-inspired style also embraces a wider palette of neutral colors. This palette includes whites, grays, and creams. There are many different shades of white that can help accentuate the bolder, brighter accent pieces that define the Palm Beach style.

Classic Palm Beach style also features bright aqua and citrus hues in throw pillows, lacquered rattan furniture, wallpaper, and other accents. The vibrant blues, yellows, oranges, and corals are reminiscent of gorgeous Palm Beach sunsets. These colors stand out best against a white or neutral base.

For even more color inspiration, look to the color palette of Lilly Pulitzer. She is a fashion icon whose name has become synonymous with Palm Beach. Lilly Pulitzer’s hot pink, tangerine, and lime green motifs are recognizable all over the world. Now, the fashion brand is partnering with Palm Beach County to create persona-driven travel guides to The Palm Beaches.

Palm Beach Style Materials

In addition to its light and bright color palette, materials also define the Palm Beach style. Rattan and bamboo are the most common materials used in this particular design style. These materials bring the outside in, which adds to the overall tropical vacation vibe. Linens are another material commonly seen in Palm Beach style homes.

Palm Beach Style Influences

Many different styles have influenced the Palm Beach style, including Hollywood Regency, Chinoiserie, and Greek Key. Metallic finishes and mirrored accents à la Hollywood Regency style add a touch of glam. Chinoiserie and Greek Key motifs make the design style more cosmopolitan.
