A little under a decade ago, actress Ellen Pompeo purchased a property in Sag Harbor to use as a vacation home. She had originally planned on using the existing structure – a charming cabin built by a civil rights activist lawyer – as a guest home and build a new, main home alongside it, but plans ended up changing when an opportunity for another home in the West Coast came up.
Instead of building a new structure, Ellen updated the original home with her own modern aesthetic, mixing the rustic nature of the original cabin with a streamlined flair. The result is a unique home – a “modern barn” as Ellen describes it – that is as comfortable as it is stylish.

Ellen Pompeo Home Tour
A camel-colored sofa and some wood accents bring some warmth to the white walls and modernism in the living room. There is a beautiful mixture of textures and patterns that blend seamlessly for an eclectic, though cohesive look.
The kitchen is simple with white walls and cabinets. Open shelving gives it a charming farmhouse appeal.
A deck offers beautiful views of the surrounding woods while you enjoy a meal at the long, rustic table.
The grounds are breathtaking in their natural beauty. The symmetrical design and clean lines bring a streamlined sensibility to it.
Black walls with white wainscoting are dramatic, yet streamlined. The pattern is repeated throughout the space in various ways.
The fireplace is the focal point of a cozy gathering spot where you can entertain or relax.
The fireplace in the main living area is surrounded by black and white curtains that mimic the hallway, only the colors are inverted.
How stunning is the backyard? It looks so peaceful and relaxing.
A curved banquette offers a great spot to read or share coffee with friends. The curvature of it creates an eye-catching contrast to the lines of the staircase.
Black paneled walls create a sophisticated look in the bedroom. The panels add a rustic touch, while the furniture brings in the modern flair.
Great design on a beautiful piece of property. Love it!
Warm regards,
Megan
