There are so many ways to decorate an outdoor space. You can get just as creative with it as an interior space and work with nature to create something truly spectacular. One of my favorite looks that has been gaining popularity lately is sunken outdoor seating.
Sunken seating is when a seating area is built into the ground and requires you to step down into it to reach it. This arrangement is great for a variety of reasons:
- It gives you extra privacy because you’ll be sitting below ground level, creating a more intimate and cozy atmosphere.
- It doesn’t disrupt the view from the house. While regular, ground-level furniture will get in the way of the view from the house windows, sunken seating will allow you to see right over it.
- It is harmonious with the landscape and can be made to look like it is a part of it.
Besides all of these practical advantages, sunken outdoor seating can also look beautiful and stylish depending on the materials and shapes that you choose. It’s very versatile, suiting everything from a rustic landscape to a more modern, minimalist one.
Here are some great examples to inspire you.
