A mudroom is one of my favorite utilitarian additions in a home. These extra spaces are usually connected to a side or back entrance into a house and are used for storing things such as coats, boots, and outdoor equipment for the kids. Usually, they have a spot to sit as you put on/take off shoes and sometimes even have a sink or dog washing station. (In fact, they got the name ‘mudroom’ because people would take off their muddy shoes in this space so they didn’t track it around the house.)
Mudrooms can be combined with a laundry room, but can also be a separate space entirely. They are a utility space that is highly functional and very convenient, making them popular among families. If you have one or are planning to move into a home that does, I’ve gathered 10 ideas to inspire you as you decorate the space. These photos are full of great ideas for organization and decor for a variety of styles and needs.
This farmhouse-inspired mudroom is full of charming touches and a wall of storage space. The farm sink is perfect choice for this kind of space.
A mudroom is joined with a laundry room to take advantage of the extra space. A bench offers seating and extra storage below, while a combination of shelves and cabinets keep things organized.
This mudroom has a cleaning station for washing off dirty boots or easily giving the dog a bath.
A whole wall of storage makes sure everything has a place to go. The bench below the coat hangers is super functional, too.
A dark floor is durable and keeps the dirt from showing in this high traffic area.
Each family member has their own station to keep things organized. Even the dog has his own colorful bed to lay on.
Extra shelving at the bottom makes for the perfect place to keep shoes organized, while baskets above hold each kids’ items in personal cubbies.
This mudroom is themed with a coastal flair. Beadboard gives it a charming touch while pops of turquoise remind you of the sea.
Drawers hold the shoes to keep them tucked away. How adorable is the compass on the floor?
Dark green paint behind the bench was a great idea to give this space some character and dimension.
Would you love to have a mudroom in your home? If so, which of these inspired you most?
Warm regards,
Megan
