When two homeowners have contrasting tastes in style, it can be a challenge to meld them but can produce some of the most inspiring results. Such is the case with this home where a husband’s modern aesthetic meets his wife’s traditional sensibility. As an architect, the husband, Stuart Silk has a keen eye when it comes to design. He treated his wife, Mary (who also did the interior design on the project) like a client and they chose every detail together. Their collaboration created a stunning home that is a perfect balance of their opposing styles. Take a look as this beautiful example of modern meets traditional design.
A gravel base beneath paving stones allows small plants to sprout between the cracks, giving the entryway a rustic appeal.
The foyer leads into an open floor plan with high ceilings and a light palette. Wood mixes with quartzite slab flooring for a contemporary-meets-rustic vibe.
The library is a cozy, traditional space full of rich textures and patterns. French doors allow in an abundance of light.
A wheat-colored Venetian plaster gives the walls an aged look, while clean lines incorporate a subtle contemporary vibe.
A muted neutral palette is a great balance between contemporary and traditional sensibilities, making the space warm but minimal.
The kitchen has a very minimal look, with traditional kitchen features being played down to flow with the rest of the open floor plan. While it is mostly a contemporary design, a few elements such as the vases on the shelf sneak in some traditional flair.
The design in the dining room is underplayed to take advantage of the stunning view you can enjoy from an ample amount of windows.
A terrace is adorned with comfortable seating and stunning landscaping to create a relaxing retreat.
A soothing palette of neutrals and muted blues fill this gender-neutral space with casual elegance.
A palette of blue and white is fresh and clean in the master bathroom, suiting the clean lines of the space very well.
A contemporary water feature gives the backyard some character and adds to the landscaping, especially at night when it is lit.
As this beautiful home proves, two styles can come together to create something beautiful when enough care and effort is applied to it.
Warm regards,
Megan
