In coastal homes, we are used to seeing the charming cottage look that has almost become synonymous with beachfront homes. But this vacation home designed by Robert Stilin Interiors took a different approach, using modern lines and elements to fill this coastal retreat. While the palette is quintessentially coastal in neutrals and subtle accents of blue, there are a mixture of modern and rustic touches that you don’t so often see in coastal homes. This home tour offers a lot of interesting elements that could have you thinking outside the coastal box if you’re ever decorating a home by the sea.
A reflective light fixture bounces natural light through the space with a modern flair. The lucite coffee table gives the small room more visual space.
The wood trim showcases some of the homes original charm, while mismatched furniture gives the room its own personality.
Clean lines and mid-century modern furniture in a coastal palette fill this space with a unique flavor.
More of the original wood trim work lends itself to a coastal, albeit slightly rustic vibe.
The dining room has some of the most unique character in the home, mixing rustic and modern touches.
A sliding, distressed wood door and concrete floors create another dichotomy of textures with a minimalist approach to furnishings.
Exposed beams and a textured rug warm up the simple modern living room.
A simple wooden bench along the wall and an antique chair dress this rustic hallway.
The children’s room fits with the minimalist, modern approach to the home.
In the bathroom, a clawfoot tub continues that simplistic, vintage appeal with only a wooden stool and an abstract piece of art to keep it company.
The bed is tightly tailored to keep in sync with the streamlined look of rest of the home, with a few quirky accents to bring warmth and personality to the space.
What do you think of the modern coastal decor in this home? Does it inspire you, or are you more attracted to the popular cottage look?
Warm regards,
Megan
