The bed is the focal point of a bedroom and one of the most important design features of a bed is its headboard. There are so many different options out there for headboards but they can get a bit pricey. If you don’t want to spend a lot of money and don’t want a boring alternative, there are some cool DIY solutions out there. With a little creativity and sometimes some elbow grease, you can add character to your bedroom that isn’t run of the mill.

Here are some of my favorite DIY headboard ideas…

By painting an outline on the wall to frame the bed and hanging a mirror and wall sconces, they’ve created a chic focal point for the room.

A shelf and a hanging seat cushion is all you need to create a cute country headboard.

Kids and teenagers will love the ability to draw freely on their headboard and parents can write reminders on it.

Old, weathered doors are a great way to add shabby chic charm to a bedroom.

Mantels don’t have to be restricted to fireplaces. They are the perfect size for a headboard and add a lot of character.

This DIY-er made a cool headboard out of wood palettes.

A headboard made from ores would be the perfect feature of a lake house bedroom.

A huge art piece like this creates an amazing effect when used as a headboard.

Another fireplace mantel as a headboard, this time filled with fabric in the middle for more comfort.

Possibly the most inexpensive solution: curtains and a floating frame.

With these ideas, a bedroom makeover that is full of character is well within reach.
