10 Inspiring Ideas for a Coastal Living Room

Growing up in California and now living in Florida, I love the beach and coastal design. The style captures that carefree spirit of the coast that is so beautiful and relaxing. There are so many amazing textures and colors to be inspired by that it’s no surprise that coastal design is extremely popular. You probably instantly think of pastel blue and starfish accessories, but coastal design goes far beyond that. I have gathered 10 photos of inspiring coastal living room that break the usual conventions of the style and combine other aesthetics (modern, eclectic, contemporary) to create something totally unique.

Taking a minimal approach to the coastal style, this living room more so suggests a coastal spirit rather than using obvious coastal references. It is light and airy, focusing on colors and natural textures found on the beach. Photo: Decoholic

Coastal design doesn’t have to mean soft colors. This room took a bolder nautical approach with a gorgeous royal blue sofa and pops of red. The unique wood table and knot-like poufs are great touches. Photo: Beautifully Coastal

Here’s another room that incorporates deep blue but in a more chic, contemporary manner. The white keeps it very clean and that glass coffee table emulates the water. Photo: Interiorholic

Coastal living can be quirky, too. Painting the director’s chair an antique white with a pop of red in the canvas was a perfect way to integrate it and that old trunk looks like it washed up on shore. Photo: A Pop of Pretty

The white wood paneling (which is very coastal) is mirrored in the comfy striped couches and ottoman. It’s an eclectic take on the coastal look. Photo: Houzz

Who said orange can’t be coastal? It’s an unusual choice but it works beautifully in this space with the white walls and natural textures. Those starfish are a great touch! Photo: Cimots

The neutrals in this room are made interesting by the variety of prints (especially those amazing zebra print chairs!) and textures. Chic, sophisticated and soothingly coastal. Photo: Style Beat

Another bold and quirky approach for a coastal living room, but it works. The rug is a modern interpretation of the sea and the neutral furniture compliments it well. Photo: Coastal Living

This cheery space reminds you of the sun and the sea with its blue and yellow palette. The assortment of patterns compliment each other well and keep the eye interested. Photo: New England Home

A warm and sophisticated approach to coastal living. That driftwood ceiling is gorgeous and I love the striped nautical-inspired chairs. Photo: Coastal Living
