Spring is in the Air: Ideas for Decorating with Pastels

With the spring season comes all the beautiful pastel colors that are so romantic and airy. You may be thinking, “Pastels? Didn’t those go out with the 80s?” But actually, every color has a place in contemporary decorating ─ it’s how they are used that makes the difference between outdated and stylish. Pastels are very fresh and calming and can be used in many different ways. They don’t just have to be all girly and bubblegum. Plus, because pastels are all light in color they follow one of the rules of making a space feel larger because they reflect light. I’ve gathered some beautiful rooms I’ve found decorated with pastels to inspire you, as well as some tips that can help you incorporate pastels into your decorating no matter what your style may be.

Pastels include all those soft, lovely neutrals. This is a great place to start. You can bring in white and soft beiges for the walls and furniture if you don’t want too much color (since they take up the most visual space). Spray paint is a great friend to giving furniture a makeover. Neutrals will give you that relaxing look that pastels have to offer and then you can add other pastel colors as accents in your accessories or maybe one piece of furniture, such as a chair. If you’re feeling a little more bold, you can paint an accent wall or the entire room in a pastel color of your choice and leave the furniture neutral.

As I said, pastels don’t just have to be girly or cottage-y ─ you can incorporate them into a contemporary space, as well. A great idea for a more contemporary space is mixing pastels with bold colors. Check out these photos of inspiring pastel rooms:
