Home Tour: Giada de Laurentiis’s Colorful California Bungalow

When Food Network chef Giada de Laurentiis and her husband, Todd Thompson, decided to renovate their Spanish-style bungalow in Pacific Palisades, they enlisted the help of architect Peter Cohen to create the clean, modern home they envisioned.

The result is a beautiful streamlined home overlooking the Santa Monica Mountains, filled with windows that allow them to embrace the incredible views. The exterior is made of African teak, white stucco, and glass that is modern without distracting from the stunning landscape. Inside, white walls draw your eye to the art, pops of color, and views.

What to Hang Over a Console Table Vignette

Console tables are wonderful pieces of furniture that fill a variety of needs. Most often they are used in an entryway or hallway to fill an empty wall with a charming vignette. They can be as long, short, tall, narrow or wide as you need and come in a variety of styles, making them wonderfully versatile. However, it can be challenging to figure out what to hang over it to complement the table and the space.

The answer depends on the individual space. A mirror is great for a small, dark space because it will open it up and make it brighter. If you want a pop of color, a bold piece of art could do the trick. If the space is particularly large, perhaps a gallery wall would be best. There are a lot of options depending on the space and your personal taste.

Here are 10 ideas for what to hang over a console table to give you some inspiration.

Home Tour: Ellen Pompeo’s Modern and Rustic Vacation Home

A little under a decade ago, actress Ellen Pompeo purchased a property in Sag Harbor to use as a vacation home. She had originally planned on using the existing structure – a charming cabin built by a civil rights activist lawyer – as a guest home and build a new, main home alongside it, but plans ended up changing when an opportunity for another home in the West Coast came up.

Instead of building a new structure, Ellen updated the original home with her own modern aesthetic, mixing the rustic nature of the original cabin with a streamlined flair. The result is a unique home – a “modern barn” as Ellen describes it – that is as comfortable as it is stylish.

Enjoy this inspiring home tour full of character and style courtesy of Architectural Digest.
