Spring 2013 Trends: Fashion to Inspire Decor

I started a series of posts I call Fashion & Interior Decor which I kicked off with 2012’s fall fashion trends that could easily translate to interior decor and explained how to use them to inspire you. There are so many sources to take inspiration from for your home decor and fashion is one of the BEST. Interior design and fashion are closely related because it’s all about creating a style of self-expression using color, textures, fabrics, and accessories. Looking to trends in fashion can give you some fresh ideas you may not have thought of. With spring just around the corner (March 20th, to be exact) it is time for a new round of fashion trends. Green, the proclaimed color of 2013 is incredibly versatile color that can be kept in mind while looking through these new spring trends.

Marc Jacobs / Celerie Kemble

BLACK AND WHITE is the most classic color combination and it’s trending in fashion this spring. Its contrast can be sophisticated, funky, feminine or masculine depending on the style of furniture and the accents that are paired with it. It pretty much goes with everything, so your creativity is the limit.

STRIPES are another classic design element that never goes out of style. They are best in small spaces or on an accent wall. They do wonders to make a low ceiling seem taller and give a space that little extra something it may be missing.

FLORALS are a lovely way to add elegance and femininity to a room, especially a bedroom. There are a multitude of patterns and colors to choose from. Depending on what you like, they can be a great focus of a room or simply an accent.

Nina Ricci / Studio Karin

PASTELS are a true mark of spring and were all over the runway this season. They are soft, soothing colors that are beautiful choices for any space where you would like to go to feel relaxed and refreshed.

Hope you are feeling inspired!

Megan

Fall Fashion Trends to Inspire Your Home Decor

Fashion and interior decorating have always had a close relationship, especially for me. I’ve studied both and have had a mutual love for them my whole life. Often, you will see the same trends crossing over both mediums. Both can be inspiring forces for each other, which is why I am introducing a new series of posts to my blog: Fashion & Interior Decor. In these regular posts, I will be exploring the love affair between fashion and interior decor, how the two can inspire each other, and most important ─ how they can inspire you.

To kick off this series, I have enlisted the help from one of my friends, top Orlando stylist and all-around fiercely talented woman Tammara Kohler of Fused Fashion. She has shared with me some of fall’s biggest trends and I’ve translated them into interior decor. Check them out…

Michael Kors / Domicile Interior Design

GOLD METALLICS have been in and out of the trend landscape for centuries. While gold may not always be considered a “trend,” classic gold accents never truly go out of style. For this fall season, gold metallics are making a comeback on the runways and in interior decor, especially in accessories.

Vogue UK / Kim Seybert

BROCADE is popping up as a popular pattern in both fashion and interior decor that lends itself to the reinassance era. This elegant pattern can be seen on wallpaper, furniture and accessories, especially fabric used for pillows, area rugs and bedding.

Alexander Wang / John + McLeod Design Consultants

LEATHER & VINYL are a fashionable choice that suit many design aesthetics, from modern to traditional. Wax and other textures with shine are popular on both the fashion and interior decor scenes right now, and of course leather is leading the way.

Alexander McQueen / Habitat Studio & Workshop

GREEN (in fact, all shades of green) is one of the most pervasive colors in design. It is a color most associated with nature and can be warm, bright, funky, or traditional ─ you name the style, green can capture it. It is a versatile and beautiful color that can breathe life into any room in the house.

Carolina Herrera /  Kerrie L. Kelly

BLACK AND BLUE is a bold, yet sophisticated color combination that appeals to both men and women alike. Breaking up the bold black and blue with pops of white and gold or silver will make the dark colors less overwhelming and more classic, as seen in the photo.

Hope you found some inspiration in these fashion trends. Stay tuned for more ways to translate fashion into interior decor.

Warm regards,
Megan
