Reese Witherspoon is a beloved American actress with an eye for interior design. Best known for her roles in Legally Blonde, Walk the Line, and the more recent Big Little Lies, Reese is an icon in the entertainment industry. Since founding Draper James, her clothing, accessory, and home goods line in 2015, Reese Witherspoon has also become known for her sense of style and interior design.
A Portfolio of Properties
Reese Witherspoon has purchased and sold a handful of homes in the past decade. Each one has been more stylish than the last.
The design of her Ojai ranch house, which she sold in 2011, was recognized for its rustic, traditional aesthetic. White walls, dark wood stains, and mounted antlers gave the ranch a homey feel.
A true desert ranch, the home was surrounded by a sparse but intentional landscape. Authentic, antique fixtures and original stonework grounded the home. Spanish-style tiles on the stair risers, exposed beams, and a wrought iron railing reinforced the rustic charm throughout.
In 2014, Reese Witherspoon purchased a grande estate in her hometown of Nashville, Tennessee. At 11,000 square feet, the main house is expansive. The interior design of the home features traditional elements similar to what Reese had installed at her Ojai ranch house.
However, where the Ojai ranch had a primarily rustic appeal, Reese’s Tennessee mansion is all about Southern elegance. Chandeliers and elaborate sconces complement the curved staircase with patterned runner. The wallpaper has gold tones that pull out the golden hues in the wood floors.
Today, Reese Witherspoon and her husband, Jim Toth, primarily reside in their luxurious Pacific Palisades home just outside of Los Angeles, California. It’s difficult to find photos of the home’s interior design, but I was able to find a video tour of the couple’s LA home produced by Vogue.
In the video, you get an inside look at Reese Witherspoon’s latest interior design preferences. The dark stain on the dining room table is reminiscent of the dark wood accents in her Ojai ranch, as is the wrought iron railing leading up the stairs.
Her living room is welcoming with multiple seating options, lots of pillows, and a cozy fireplace—just what you would expect from someone obsessed with hospitality. A plush couch sits at the bottom of the stairs, just inside the back door. Even the pool deck invites you to sit and stay a spell. Casual, shaded table and chairs overlook a sparkling blue pool and lush grass beyond.
Inside her study, you’ll find the elements that make the room feel cozy. First, you’ll see a grand piano near the window that calls you to sit and play a few notes. Then you’ll notice a wall full of books that also showcases pictures and awards. Finally, you’ll find yourself drawn to a gorgeous tufted leather couch pulls everything together. The video tour only covers the downstairs area of the home. If it’s any indication of what’s upstairs, then you can be sure the second-floor bedrooms are rich with natural accents, inviting furniture, and a touch of Southern charm.
